You are the backbone of our health care system, the pillars of the medical industry and most importantly, you are lifesavers! Nurses are the largest group of health care professionals and make a difference in people’s life every day.

No matter where you are, the 12th of May is International Nurses Day. A day to celebrate all of you who work day and night shifts, work through holidays and rarely get thanked for all the work you do. We here at Fox Group see all the amazing work you do and hear your stories on a regular basis. So, this International Nurses Day we wanted to take the opportunity and thank you for all your hard work and sacrifice.
It isn’t always easy being a nurse and pouring your heart and soul into a profession that rarely ever receives the appreciation it deserves, but aesthetic nurse and REVOLAX customer Shelley Folkes says it’s not about the thanks you get but about the difference you make: ‘The most rewarding thing about being a nurse is being in a position to make someone feel better. It may just be a smile or a hug or something much bigger, but I know I make a difference and I’m extremely proud of that.’ As she should be.
Modern nursing as we know it now, dates all the way back to the Crimean War, when Florence Nightingale reformed the profession by implementing hygiene practices and raising awareness for the link between poor hygiene and high mortality rates. Her birthday now serves as International Nurses Day and Florence Nightingale herself has become the mother of modern nursing. Her compassion and dedication inspired many to follow in her footsteps and to see nursing for what it is: an honourable profession.
While our health care system isn’t perfect, Shelley Folkes wants the next generation of nurses to know that ‘it’s an honour and a privilege to be a nurse.’ She urges all aspiring nurses to ‘never lose your compassion or your sparkle. Stay true to the reasons you started in the first place. Don’t get lost in a difficult system and never lose sight of what inspired you to go into nursing.’

No matter which path as a nurse you take, rewarding moments are waiting for you around many corners. As an aesthetic nurse, Shelley Folkes works with clients to improve their confidence and quality of life which leads to rewarding and heart-warming moments.
‘A lady in her early 50s I treated with REVOLAX looked in the mirror and cried tears of joy after having her nasolabial folds and her “sad mouth” up turned. It was a really great result and wonderful to see what a huge difference it made to her self-confidence. I think we both welled up actually!’ says Shelley.
We want to leave you with this wonderful story of the impact a nurse can have on someone’s life and thank all of you nurses out there for the amazing work you do. If you haven’t taken the time to thank someone special today, grab your phone and start thanking.
Shelley Folkes has a very special message on this day: ‘I’d like to thank my Mum for always believing in me. I’ve still got a card she left in my room when I moved into nurses’ quarters at the hospital I trained at and it says how proud she is of me and how she believed in me and how she knew I would do it. That card was pinned on my notice board the full three years I trained, it was referred to often along the way!’
